Divorce and James Bond are linked this year. In November, we'll have a new
installment for the film franchise. For now, we have one of the actors who
played 007 — George Lazenby, back in 1969 — again in the spotlight, via
high-conflict divorce from wife and five-time Wimbledon doubles champion Pam
Shriver.
The
couple has three children: Four-year-old George, Jr., and twins Samuel
and Kaitlin, who turn three next month.
One
of the things I try to do in working with the clients I coach is help them
look into the future and play out the likely consequences of acts that
emotions make seem compelling right now. Movies and sports have built-in
appeal, along with an apparent familiarity with the players. So dramas such
as this one portend a better grip on the attention span that some others
with which I have to work.
I'm
not talking about lectures or even the prospect of all the money that will
be spent in a very public way. Rather, I simply use it to question how
"unique" anyone truly thinks their result will be if they'd taken a
different path. A little less public. A lot less dramatic.
Some
folks need this; it's cathartic, helps them unhook. In an analytical,
objective sense, there's no other way.
If
that's you, then that's you. I can work with that, too.
It's
just that I always think a client should go in with his or her eyes open
up-front regarding the process he or she will be purchasing; the look,
smell, and feel of it; and to know that there are other options worth
considering.
Much
as I enjoy the world of Ian Fleming as conveyed through On Her Majesty's
Secret Service, it's not a lifestyle I care to recommend as a first move.
